When I was small, I always felt interesting about the United States; for every time I saw Americans on TV, they often used different and special ways to communicate with others. When I really understood what the real American was, I noticed that there were large quantities of differences in the area of communication.
I believe that the gestures are the most obvious difference because I have noticed that there are a lot of gestures which I cannot see them in China. Such as, I always see many male African Americans use complex gestures when they meet. As for the Chinese, when they do when they meet friends is just a wave their hands and say “hello”. In the area of eye contact, I think Chinese people use it often that Americans. For example, my mom always uses it with me and my dad always gives me an evil eye when I make something wrong. Actually, I am not quite sure about this issue. However, one thing I am aware that lovers use eye contact often. Body space is also a difference between the two cultures. I just read the text book, and I learnt that there was a specific space here when people communicate with others. However, as long as people do not stand too close when Chinese people communicate, it is fine.
All in all, I know all the differences what this paper just mentioned are related to the cultural difference because culture determines all. However, I do see there is a common communication way no matter where I visit that is smile. When people show me their white teeth, I always the world is a family.
