A new language we need protect

Today’s teenagers use their fingers to express their opinions instead of using tongues. Some people believe that this texting language is a second language that students do not necessarily study it. It seems that it is true. However, those young people who like typing language always misuse this kind of informal language in a formal situation. The author of this paper noticed the issue, so he wanted to say something persuasive to let most people accept the typing language. From the author’s perspective, he believes that the typing language can improve the creation and expression of the writing.

The writer used a data to explain how frequent people use short forms, abbreviations and emotional language. He wants to show his audiences that the typing language is not that popular in normal life. It just appears 3% of the daily talks. In addition, he also shows a evidence that young people use the typing language when they send emails and talk. However, after working, they use formal language. Thus, the typing language cannot move the status of formal language.

I believe that the paper is extremely persuasive. It gives me a feeling that people need the typing language in our life because it is saves time when my share something for the people we know. Also, some interesting can be created by this type of language. We need it, so we keep it.

The Use of Quotations and Paraphrases in Youth Voting

The paper I chose to read was written by Jeffrey Bivin who talked about the issue of youth voting. This paper explains the reasons why most young citizens are disconnected from political area.
In this paper, the writer uses a lot of paraphrases and quotations to support his main ideas of the paper. One of the most successful paraphrases I think is “Voter turnout for those aged 18-24 reached a record low of 28% during 1996 presidential election (Delli Carpini 342)”. The sentence I just mentioned appears in the second paragraph of the paper. Here, the writer wants to catch readers’ attention because most readers will be surprised when they learn most young people in the U.S.A. do not care about the most important vote--- the presidential election.
For explaining the reasons why young citizens do not involve voting, the writer uses three quotations to explain. One of the three quotations is “Additionally, youth are “Less likely to read a newspaper or watch the news. Thirsty-six percent of young adults…say they follow the news every day, as compared with 52% of those between…30 and 45” (Delli Carpini 342)”. Here, the writer just wants to use a truth to tell the readers that young people do not focus on the news. However, I do not really the way he explains here because he uses a lot of quotations in one paragraph. However, I have to say that I can understand his idea here very well. Thus, it is a good example of using quotations.
Form my own perspective, the writer uses quotations and paraphrases very well because he tries to catch his readers’ attention step by step. Such as, he uses a paraphrase which has figures to attract. Later, he uses many quotations to explain the reasons why young citizens do not like voting. In addition, the writer also uses paraphrases and quotations to talk about the older people’s view about the issue of voting. Here, the writer wants to use the different views to highlight young voters’ value about voting.
All in all, this is a really good paper because the writer uses limited sources to explain his idea effectively.

We should Be Wlear When We Study History!!!

In fact, I am a person who does not support wars, so I never focus on the issue of wars and the history of wars. Thus, this topic is a little bit tough for me. However, China has a long history. I guess I can pick up some famous instances to develop my topic.
In the ancient time, there was a rule that the current dynasty must write the history of previous dynasty. Not only did the current dynasty recover the history, but also the dynasty wanted to use it to alert its emperors that did not lose their countries in the same way as the last previous emperor of the last dynasty. I have to say that the real history has not been recovered totally because the winner writers wanted to show off their remarkable histories. They might highlight their positive aspects; however, the shameful aspects may be covered as the same time. They never mention how many people they killed for gaining the country. They never focus on the issue which how many innocent women were violated by their soldiers. However, the loser writers always claim how terrible the current dynasty is. For example, Taiwan’s Kuomintang, the most powerful party in Taiwan, often claims that the Communist party of China did nothing for fighting against the Japanese Army during World War II. Actually, the Kuomintang tells the truth because the Communist party of China had no weapons to fight at that time. However, the Communist party of China amazingly won the Kuomintang and established new China in 1949. As we can imagine that the party of China never admits the real history. In our history books, they tell students that the party fought for a lot battles for fighting against the Japanese.
History is always a controversial issue. We cannot change the so-called real history, but I hope people can be clear when they study it.

The same, the better!!!

Actually, I really understand why Liu chose to live with Chinese. I have to say, I want to live with Chinese because that can make me feel more comfortable. I can say anything I want to and do anything I would like to. Even though I may have conflicts with my Chinese roommates, the issue cannot be an international problem. We can argue or even fight; it does not matter. However, if I argue with American roommate, what would he think? He will never mention how his Chinese roommate is. I think he would probably claim Chinese people are…… As for me, I also will say something bad about him.
For the issue of meeting strangers, I would say that the people who are from the same country as me are easier to communicate than the people who have different nationalities. In fact, this is a common issue. When we say the society of the US, we probably can notice that the phenomenon of segregation still exists. When I walk on the campus, I can notice that African American hang out together and Native Americans hang out together. As for this issue, I asked one of my teachers. He told me that Native Americans do not have discriminations to African American. They just want to feel comfortable when they hang out with the same race people.

The ways we use for communication.

When I was small, I always felt interesting about the United States; for every time I saw Americans on TV, they often used different and special ways to communicate with others. When I really understood what the real American was, I noticed that there were large quantities of differences in the area of communication.
I believe that the gestures are the most obvious difference because I have noticed that there are a lot of gestures which I cannot see them in China. Such as, I always see many male African Americans use complex gestures when they meet. As for the Chinese, when they do when they meet friends is just a wave their hands and say “hello”. In the area of eye contact, I think Chinese people use it often that Americans. For example, my mom always uses it with me and my dad always gives me an evil eye when I make something wrong. Actually, I am not quite sure about this issue. However, one thing I am aware that lovers use eye contact often. Body space is also a difference between the two cultures. I just read the text book, and I learnt that there was a specific space here when people communicate with others. However, as long as people do not stand too close when Chinese people communicate, it is fine.
All in all, I know all the differences what this paper just mentioned are related to the cultural difference because culture determines all. However, I do see there is a common communication way no matter where I visit that is smile. When people show me their white teeth, I always the world is a family.

Chinese way to show emotion

I choose option 2 to answer. Actually, I have to say I have learnt a lot through reading the article. There are many new ideas which tell me how to interact with my future friends.
Now, I am considering whether those information of the article which are good for making friends are really work will on Chinese people. In fact, I do not think it is easy to make friends with the Chinese because most of them are shy and close. Sometimes, even though two guys are good friends, he/she probably will never tell the other his/her personal sorrows. Chinese people would like to cover them in their hearts. As for joys, I may say people share them in China; nevertheless, sharing joys is still rare.
What the last paragraph just mentioned probably causes serious inner problems for Chinese people which they like hiding their emotions in hearts. For example, I assume that there is a boy has loved a girl, but he does have courage to tell the girl. This thing happens a lot in China. I always ask why, but I cannot find a specific answer. As for American, people show their love and emotions freely and quickly which happens a few in my country.
I loved a wonderful girl who is more like a beautiful queen. I probably say the love we had was a fairy tales. It seemed that I was a prince. The sense of love made me forget who I am. I always image the charming, but doggone girl was mine. Even though I loved her in such a deep way, we just held hands on the street. We never kissed and hug in public. Actually, I think I can stand for most young people of China. Thus, I would say demonstrative things should always happen in room.
That is all what I know about Chinese people in the field of emotion.

The same landuage, but different ways to show!

Language! What an interesting word for me! Actually, I can speak three languages now. However, my parents just can frequently speak one language. In addition, I have been to many counties, so I have absorbed a large quantity of styles of cultures and languages. As for my parents, although they have more life experience than me, their language still stops at the level of Chinese. Thus, when my parents and I communicate with others, they may probably find a lot of obvious differences. Today, I will explain how different when my parents and I talk and how I use language in formal and informal atmospheres.
When I talk with people, I always keep smile and relax. I strongly believe that this way can make the relationships between listeners and I close easily. Whereas, my parents hold an opposite view; they think a polite and serious talking atmosphere can make listeners feel comfortable. We have argued many times about this issue. I thought there was a generation gap between my parents and I. Now, I do not hold this view any more. I have started opening my heart to learn more about my parents; therefore, the most obvious difference in using language between and I is becoming smaller. Another difference I want to reveal is that the pronunciation of parents is not normative. Actually, I can speak Chinese well, but my parents cannot. They cannot accept and absorb new words quickly.
I was the chairman of the Students’ Union in high school, so I can speak formally and politely. However, I do not like living under mask. I desire to be myself and I prefer speak freely with my friends because I do not necessarily watch my mouse. I can talk and share whatever I want to say. I do not need to organize what I will say. The way of life is what I am seeking. I gave some speeches, so I know how to control my emotion and words when I am in a formal situation.
All in all, language is magic. Different people have diverse versions when they use. In addition, situation decides what people should use formal or informal language. The two results what this paper just mentioned are my own perspective. Maybe there are many people do not support my views, so what I just said just for fun.
